Mister Wharff: Feel Like ‘King of the Jungle’ with the Heated Razor

Mister Wharff: Feel Like ‘King of the Jungle’ with the Heated Razor

Gillette has been supplying the nation with high-quality razors since 1903, when founder King Camp Gillette introduced the world’s first safety razor onto the male grooming market, allowing men to experience a close, comfortable shave in the comfort of their very own homes.

Over the years, Gillette has continued to innovate its razors to meet men’s ever-changing needs, while replicating the magic hands of a well-experienced barber, from the ever-famous Mach3 Razor to the more recent SkinGuard Sensitive Razor.

In 2019, Gillette introduced its biggest, hottest (quite literally) release yet: the GilletteLabs Heated Razor.

According to the experts, a warm shave encourages the pores to open, which helps to reduce the risk of painful, irritating razor burn. Usually, that’s all well and good until the water turns unpleasantly lukewarm halfway through your shave – let’s face it, who’s got the time to constantly top up the sink with hot water to get the perfect warm shave? Well, this is where the GilletteLabs Heated Razor comes into play.

Start by fully charging the Heated Razor using the wireless docking station – which definitely added an extra touch of sophistication to my bathroom. You’ll then have six full uses of the razor until it needs charging again – the wireless charging is possible thanks to some high-performance magnets, which is pretty cool and futuristic-feeling.

The GilletteLabs Heated Razor is nicely weighted – its slight heaviness brings a real luxury quality; it looks good, and it feels good. The razor’s non-slip, smooth cover allows you to grip the shaver with beautiful control and ease.

For a premium razor, you’d expect the product to tick all the boxes, and the Heated Razor certainly does. The shaver radiates heat as soon as you press the button, immediately activating its innovative warming technology – you’ll see this in action as the narrow bar in the centre of the razor begins to light up.

There’s a choice of two heat settings, which I feel was an extremely wise move, meaning every guy can achieve their perfect shave. To adjust the setting during shaving, simply press down on the power button for a couple of seconds, until you see the lights change colour. All of this means you can enjoy a warm shave without upping your water bill!

For the ultimate, hot towel shave-like experience, you want the heat setting on amber. For a slightly less intense but still extremely pleasurable shave, opt for the orange setting. Whichever setting you choose, you’re going to be in for a wonderfully enjoyable shaving experience.

I began with the orange setting, which provided plenty of warmth for my first time using the device. It took a few razor strokes for me to adjust to the sensation of using a razor with added heat – it was a bit of a shock to the system, but in the best possible way.

Since I’ve been using my GilletteLabs Heated Razor, shaving has been more enjoyable than I could have thought, and I’ve definitely been achieving that coveted close shave – quite possibly my best one yet.

So, would I recommend the Heated Razor? Most definitely, if you want to up your self-care routine and be left feeling like King of the Jungle. While I’ve previously been very happy with my Gillette SkinGuard Sensitive Razor, the GilletteLabs Heated Razor has introduced me to a whole new dimension of shaving – something every man should consider trying at least once.

You can even take out a shaving subscription with Gillette to get fresh blades for your Heated Razor delivered direct to your door on a regular basis to make sure you’re always getting the best, most comfortable shave.

John (aka Mister Wharff) is extremely passionate about skincare - so much so that he started his own blog dedicated to the topic in 2014. He believes that looking after your appearance can have a big impact in helping you to feel like the best version of yourself. In his spare time, John loves to hit the gym (where he can often be found recommending skincare instead of exercising…), and his claim to fame is that a retweet from Lord Alan Sugar once caused his website to crash.
